v0.5.1 · Modifier-only shortcuts and the Mic bubble

November 6, 2026

  • Use modifier keys on their own as your Record shortcut, such as Option+Command or Right Command. On a Mac this needs Accessibility.
  • Shortcuts can now use punctuation and keypad keys. If a shortcut can't be used, VocType tells you why.
  • The Mic bubble is a small button on your screen. Tap it to dictate. It's on by default on a Mac, and you can turn it off in Settings.
  • While you turn on Accessibility, a small panel sits next to System Settings, so you can drag VocType straight into the list.
  • Setup notices when you turn on Accessibility, so you no longer need to restart VocType.
  • Setup steps and windows now fade in and out instead of popping.
  • The listening wave on the dictation pill now follows your voice.
  • Without Accessibility access, VocType now copies your text, so you can paste it with Command-V. Before, it only saved the text to History.
  • Click Set up access on the dictation pill to see how to turn on Accessibility. Then VocType can type for you.
  • Fixed: VocType no longer restarts while you are recording or while it is transcribing.

v0.5.0 · A new look, and Dictionary suggestions

November 1, 2026

  • VocType has a new look, with a new logo and a redesigned window, menu bar icon and dictation pill.
  • Home shows how much you dictated this week and your activity over the last 12 weeks.
  • Sign-in and setup now walk you through microphone and Accessibility access, step by step.
  • Search History and fix a misheard word in a past dictation.
  • Add your own words and replacements in Dictionary. When you fix the same word twice after a paste, VocType suggests it, and you choose whether to keep it. This stays on your Mac.
  • The menu bar icon shows when VocType is listening or transcribing. Click it to start dictating, switch microphones or open any screen.
  • Settings is split into General, Account and About.
  • Plans and checkout open inside the app, and the Subscription tab shows your card, your next payment and any payment problem, with a way to ask for a refund.
  • If your version is too old to keep working, VocType shows an Update screen with a download link.

v0.4.2 · Speak Urdu or Hindi, get English

October 22, 2026

  • Speak Urdu or Hindi and VocType pastes the English translation. Pick Urdu → English or Hindi → English in Settings under Speaking language. English stays the default. Other languages are no longer offered, so if you picked one, VocType switches you back to English.
  • After you sign in, the browser shows a clear VocType page, and the app comes to the front so you can start dictating.
  • When VocType is busy, your recording is saved and the app tells you when to try again. Retry it from History.
  • If paste is blocked, the app tells you to remove VocType from the Accessibility list and add it again. That step fixes it.
  • The See plans button and the other billing buttons now open Home, where your plan card is.
  • Only the copy of VocType in your Applications folder adds itself to Login Items.

v0.4.1 · Change your plan, clear History and delete your account in the app

October 22, 2026

  • Windows preview. You can now try VocType on Windows 10 or later (64-bit). Download the Windows preview. It is not signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows a warning the first time you open it. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  • Switch between monthly and annual billing from Settings → Account. You see the exact amount before you confirm.
  • Cancel renewal from Settings → Account, and turn it back on any time before your plan ends. Settings now shows whether you're on the monthly or annual plan, and the date your plan renews or ends.
  • Clear your whole History with one click using Clear History.
  • Delete your account from Settings → Account. Your History, dictionary and saved recordings are deleted, any renewal is cancelled, and the unused part of a paid period is refunded automatically.
  • If a renewal payment fails, Settings shows how long you can keep dictating while you update your card, and when the subscription has ended.

v0.4.0 · Personal Dictionary, 100 languages and retry from History

October 21, 2026

  • This release needs macOS 13 Ventura or later on an Apple Silicon Mac. If your Mac runs macOS 11 or 12, you stay on 0.3.1.
  • Teach VocType your words in the new Personal Dictionary. Add names and terms it should recognize, plus replacements that change a word to your spelling every time you dictate.
  • Dictate in any of 100 languages, or let VocType detect which one you're speaking.
  • If a transcription fails, retry it from History instead of recording again.
  • Recordings can now run up to 30 minutes. VocType warns you at 29 minutes, then stops and transcribes what you said.
  • VocType opens when you log in to your Mac. You can turn this off in Settings → Behavior → Launch at login.
  • Pasting no longer needs Automation permission, only Accessibility access.
  • New VocType logo throughout the app.
  • If you cancel sign-in or the link expires, the browser page now tells you how to try again.
  • Turning off crash reports in Settings now actually stops them from being sent.
  • The hotkey step in setup now says how recording works: press once to start, press again to stop. If another app already uses the key you pick, you'll see that right away.

v0.3.1 · Opens without the security warning

October 2, 2026

  • No more security warning. VocType is now signed and notarized by Apple. The first time you open it, macOS shows its usual prompt for apps downloaded from the internet. Click Open and you're in. No right-click trick, no Terminal command.
  • Updates install themselves. New versions download in the background and install the next time you restart VocType.

v0.3.0 · Pick your own hotkey, plus notifications

May 16, 2026

  • Pick your own record hotkey in Settings → Hotkey. Use a modifier (Option, Cmd, Shift or Ctrl) plus a letter, number or punctuation key, or a function key from F1 to F24 on its own.
  • Conflicts with system shortcuts (Spotlight, Cmd+Q, Alt+Tab and others) are caught before you save.
  • Notifications. VocType can now show announcements as native macOS notifications. They are off unless you turn them on during setup.
  • Signed in on more than one Mac? A notification reaches each one.

v0.2.0 · Speech-to-text translation

May 13, 2026

  • Speak Urdu or Hindi and get English text pasted at your cursor.
  • New Speaking language picker and Translate to English toggle in Settings.
  • History marks translated dictations with an English badge.
  • Faster English transcription, and a higher-accuracy mode for translation.
  • Settings remember your speaking language and translation choice between launches.

v0.1.2 · Clearer help when paste is blocked

May 10, 2026

  • If macOS hasn't given VocType Accessibility access, your transcript is saved to History and the widget tells you what to fix, with a button that opens the right Settings page.
  • A banner on Home shows when access is missing, with a one-click Quit and Relaunch.
  • Shorter setup: six steps instead of seven.

v0.1.1 · Smaller download

May 10, 2026

  • The download is about 18% smaller (101 MB to 83 MB).

v0.1.0 · First release

May 10, 2026

  • First build for macOS on Apple Silicon.
  • Press a hotkey (Option + Space by default), speak, and the text is pasted at your cursor.
  • Cloud transcription.
  • A small floating widget shows when VocType is listening and transcribing.
  • Sign in with Google or email. History of your recent dictations.
