History and retrying a failed recording
Where your transcripts are saved, what happens to a recording that could not be transcribed, and how Retry works.

History
Every transcript is saved to your account. Open VocType from its menu bar icon and go to History to see them, copy one, or recover text that did not paste. History works on every computer you sign in on.
When a recording is not transcribed
If VocType cannot transcribe a recording, because you are offline, the service timed out or failed, or you hit a fair-use cap, it keeps the audio and the pill says "Saved to History". In History it shows as "Recording not transcribed" with a Retry button and the reason, for example:
- "Couldn't reach VocType. Check your connection, then retry."
- "Transcription failed. Retry in a moment."
- "Allowance used up. Retry when it resets."
- "Update VocType, then retry."
Retry
Click Retry and the transcript appears in the same row. Retry never pastes, because the app you were typing in may have moved on. Copy the text from History instead.
How long the audio is kept
- Audio held back by a fair-use cap is saved, encrypted, on your Mac until you retry or delete it. It survives restarts.
- Audio from a connection or service failure is kept in memory for up to 24 hours, or until you quit VocType.
- Click Delete audio to throw a recording away. Signing out also deletes it, and VocType asks first.
VocType keeps one unsent recording at a time. If you try to record while one is waiting, you will see "Retry or delete your unsent Recording first".
