Recording length and fair-use limits

How long one recording can be, what happens at the limit, and how the fair-use caps pause and resume dictation.

One recording: up to 30 minutes

A single recording can be up to 30 minutes long. In the last minute, the pill counts down ("Stopping in" followed by the seconds left). At 30 minutes VocType stops on its own, transcribes and pastes as usual, then tells you the limit was reached. Press the hotkey again to keep going in a new recording.

Fair-use caps

Plans have fair-use caps on billed dictation time, per month and per 24 hours, shared across all your computers. The exact numbers and when they reset are in the Terms. Only successful transcriptions count.

When you get close to a cap during a trial, VocType tells you how much is left. When you reach a cap, dictation pauses and the pill says when you can dictate again, for example "Dictation paused until" a time. It resumes on its own; there is nothing to buy or reset.

A recording made at the cap

If you finish a recording just as dictation pauses, VocType keeps the audio and says "Saved to History". Retry it from History once dictation resumes. See History and retrying a failed recording.
