Updating VocType

How VocType updates itself, and what to do when it says an update is required.

Automatic updates

VocType checks for updates shortly after it opens and then every hour. A new version downloads in the background, and the app shows when it is ready to install. Click Restart now to install it straight away, or it installs the next time you quit VocType.

After an update, if pasting stops working, macOS may still be using the permission it gave the old copy. In System Settings, remove VocType from the Accessibility list with the minus button, add it again with the plus button, then quit and reopen it. Step by step: Microphone and Accessibility permissions.

"Update required"

Now and then an older version can no longer transcribe. VocType then shows "Update required" with the version you need, and transcription stops until you update.

  1. Click Download latest version, or download VocType for Mac again.
  2. Open the download and drag VocType into Applications, replacing the old copy.
  3. Quit VocType and open it again. Your settings and account stay as they were.

If a recording was saved to History while the update was needed, retry it from History once you have updated.
